Pathway Based Instruction is leading with the mindset of students cannot simply be labeled into one category for each subject. A student is not "low" in math, "on level" in English, and "high" in science! How can you be just LOW in math? There isn't one topic out of the many, many topics taught in math that you do well in? Or are really great in? OF COURSE THERE ARE! But we tend to label students based on their overall performance and not on their individual needs! Student A may struggle with most math concepts but ROCK at geometry! Student A might be "on-level" in ELA but needs a great deal of help in grammar, but is AWESOME with comprehension! Student A might be considered a HIGH level learner in Science but may have some specific needs you and they aren't aware of, or may even want more of a challenge! How do we know that all this as educators if we focus on the WHOLE picture instead of getting to know each chapter in a students book of their educational story for each subject and each standard?
Want to bring the Pathway Based Instructional Mindset to your campus/district?
Yes BUT differentiation is the act of altering instruction for students based on their ability and needs in a subject.
Whereas PATHWAYS differentiates on a deeper level, looking at a students ability on each standard completely separate from each other, instead of their ability in a subject as a whole. PATHWAYS force you to TRULY know your students AND for them to know themselves!
ALL SUBJECTS
ALL GRADE LEVELS
The FAVORITE in the program! Students are able to log their progress for EACH standard in that subject, to view any growth made or areas to improve upon and set goals for the next assessment. Students build confidence, are aware of their needs, get excited for assessments to see if they made Progress and build relationships with their teachers and the subject they are monitoring!
MATH
3RD-ALGEBRA 1
Each student will have access to their own personalized, online pathway learning course where their year in math is split into each learning standard.
Students will receive a 4 question quiz before starting each standard plan.
How the student does on this assessment will determine which PATHWAY videos they will enter for each and every standard.
Pathway A? Remedial learning
Pathway B? On level learning
Pathway C? Challenge and extension learning
At the end of each bundle of standards students will be given an exit assessment to see if growth occurred throughout their Pathways Learning experience or if more learning assistance is needed.
MATH
3RD-ALGEBRA 1
Teachers are provided with leveled activities for their students to use throughout the year. Students will have access to Pathway A, B and C activities for EACH standard. Students can be assigned which Pathway is most appropriate for them for each standard by their teacher or they can decide which to go to themselves based on their progress of each learning standard from their Pathway Progress Booklets.
Do your students know exactly which standards they ROCK at, which they may need a little more help on, and which they struggle with? If NOT then implement Pathways on your campus!
Students develop a deeper understanding of their NEEDS while also increasing their confidence and pride in the standards they are SUCCESSFUL
Do you wish that you could re-teach and review with all of your students, at every level of learning, individually? Do you struggle with being able to help the students who are at a low, middle and high level for each individual standard all at the exact same time? PATHWAYS are your solution!
How does it work?
Pathways LEARN: You can place, or let the provided placement quiz in every bundle do it for you, each individual student on an appropriate pathway based on their level of need for that individual standard. After the student is complete with that bundles pathway videos and activities, there is an Exit Test to monitor any progress made.
Pathways PRACTICE: You can use these as a station, practice activities after a lesson, or an "I'm done, now what?" resource. Pathways PRACTICE provide hands on practice for students on a standard recently learned, or a review from the past, on their appropriate level for that particular learning standard.
Pathways PROGRESS: Students become in charge of their own data and are able to monitor their progress for each individual learning standard, instead of their overall grade! Students also use their data in their pathway progress booklets to determine their appropriate pathway for each standard whether they are completing Pathways PRACTICE or LEARN.
